An updated Interstate 10 construction alert removes one previously announced westbound restriction but keeps three overnight lane restrictions in place through Friday, Oct. 16.
The I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor team marked the planned westbound restriction between the Gila River Bridge and Goodyear Road as canceled in an Oct. 12 update.
Work near Dirk Lay Road remains scheduled in both directions, and a separate eastbound restriction near the Gila River Bridge is planned Thursday night. Every active item narrows the freeway to one lane in the work area.

The updated schedule
The official corridor alert lists these active restrictions:
Eastbound I-10 near Dirk Lay Road, milepost 182: one lane from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, starting Monday, Oct. 12, and ending Friday, Oct. 16, for earthwork.
Westbound I-10 near Dirk Lay Road, milepost 182: one lane during the same 8 p.m.–5 a.m. nightly window through Friday, Oct. 16, for earthwork.
Eastbound I-10 between the Gila River Bridge and Nelson Road, mileposts 173–174: one lane from 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, for barrier relocation and removal.
The canceled item would have reduced westbound I-10 to one lane between the Gila River Bridge and Goodyear Road, mileposts 173–169, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Canceling that one item does not mean the full corridor is work-free. Drivers can still encounter the Dirk Lay restrictions, the Thursday-night eastbound work and changing conditions elsewhere in the 26-mile construction corridor.
What “ending Friday” means
The official wording says the Dirk Lay Road restrictions start Monday, Oct. 12, and end Friday, Oct. 16. Because the work is overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., travelers should use the live AZ511 map rather than assume a specific final night from the date range alone.
For the Gila River Bridge-to-Nelson Road item, the notice is explicit: it begins at 9 p.m. Thursday and ends at 5 a.m. Friday.
Schedules can change because of weather or other unforeseen factors. The corridor team directs drivers to AZ511 or the AZ511 app for current conditions.
Why the work is happening
The Wild Horse Pass Corridor project covers 26 miles of I-10 between Loop 202 and State Route 387 near Casa Grande. ADOT says the full project will add a third general-purpose lane in each direction and extend high-occupancy-vehicle lanes from Loop 202 to Riggs Road.
The work near Dirk Lay Road belongs to the southern portion of the corridor, where crews are adding lanes and rebuilding major connections. The Thursday-night bridge-area restriction supports barrier relocation and removal as the new Gila River bridge work advances.
ADOT announced Oct. 5 that active construction had also started on the 11-mile northern segment between Loop 202 and the Gila River. That segment includes future interchange reconstruction at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard, Riggs Road and Queen Creek Road/SR 347, plus a new Koli Road interchange.
The entire corridor is expected to remain an active construction zone for years; ADOT currently targets late 2029 for completion of all four segments.
How this affects Maricopa trips
Maricopa drivers commonly reach I-10 through SR 347, so overnight restrictions north or south of that interchange can affect airport trips, Phoenix commutes, Casa Grande travel and freight routes.
The best route depends on the exact work location and current traffic. A canceled westbound restriction near the Gila River does not automatically make a different segment faster. Check the live map before leaving and allow extra time when a one-lane section overlaps with heavy nighttime traffic.
OurMaricopa’s SR 347 commuter guide includes traffic cameras and official alert links. The Maricopa transit-study guide tracks a separate local planning effort; it does not change the I-10 construction schedule.
Practical reminders
Merge when directed and leave space around trucks and work vehicles.
Expect sudden slowing before the one-lane tapers.
Do not use the canceled item as a general all-clear for the corridor.
Recheck AZ511 close to departure, especially Thursday night.
Watch for a new weekend alert after this weeknight schedule expires.
The most useful change in the Oct. 12 update is precise: one westbound restriction is off the schedule. The other three remain the plans drivers should use today.
