SR 347 drops to one lane each way all weekend: Oct. 2–5 guide for Maricopa drivers

SR 347 will narrow to one lane each way from Casa Blanca Road to Mammoth Way all weekend. See the Oct. 2–5 schedule before leaving Maricopa.

Maricopa drivers heading north on State Route 347 this weekend should plan for a long work-zone restriction, not a short overnight closure.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says SR 347 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Casa Blanca Road and Mammoth Way from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5. The work is scheduled for paving on the 14-mile improvement corridor north of the city.

The highway is expected to remain open in both directions. ADOT has not listed a local detour for this restriction, but the reduced capacity can still slow trips between Maricopa and Interstate 10. Drivers should allow extra time and check conditions before leaving.

The restriction lasts from Friday night through Monday morning

The key difference in this weekend's plan is duration. ADOT's final advisory lists a continuous restriction from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, rather than separate nightly windows.

At a glance:

  • Starts: 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2

  • Ends: 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5

  • Location: SR 347 between Casa Blanca Road and Mammoth Way

  • Traffic plan: One lane open in each direction

  • Work: Paving

An earlier corridor listing used an 8 p.m. start, while ADOT's Oct. 1 final weekend advisory and the current AZ511 alert list 10 p.m. Friday. Because work-zone records can update at different times, drivers with a time-sensitive trip should check AZ511 again before leaving and plan conservatively.

That schedule covers Saturday and Sunday daytime travel as well as the overnight hours. A trip that normally avoids weekday commuter traffic could still encounter a queue where two lanes merge into one.

The restriction is north of the City of Maricopa and runs through the broader SR 347 construction corridor. Before driving, open OurMaricopa's SR 347 traffic page for corridor resources and check AZ511's live conditions for any crash, closure or schedule update that changes the trip.

What drivers should expect in the work zone

ADOT says most restrictions for the SR 347 Improvement Project will occur overnight and on weekends. The agency's traffic-management plan calls for a 55 mph speed limit through the 14-mile project corridor and 45 mph in active work zones.

Those posted limits matter when traffic compresses near a merge. ADOT advises drivers to slow down, use caution, merge safely and watch for construction workers and equipment.

Drivers can make the trip easier by leaving more room between vehicles and avoiding a last-second lane change. If a weekend appointment, flight or work shift has a fixed start time, build in a buffer rather than counting on normal travel time.

Weather can also affect paving. Check Maricopa's local weather along with AZ511, because ADOT says construction schedules can change for weather or other unforeseen conditions.

This is part of the larger SR 347 improvement project

The current work is part of ADOT's project to improve 14 miles of SR 347 between Interstate 10 and Maricopa. The planned project includes an added lane in each direction, pavement rehabilitation, a concrete median barrier, new grade-separated interchanges at Riggs Road and Mammoth Way, and intersection work at Casa Blanca Road and Maricopa Road.

Pavement rehabilitation is the first phase. ADOT lists the overall project for completion in late 2029, with more detailed phasing still to come.

Quick answers

Is SR 347 closed this weekend?

No. ADOT says it will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Casa Blanca Road and Mammoth Way.

Is there an official detour?

ADOT did not list a detour for this restriction because the route remains open. Do not assume an unpaved or unfamiliar side road is a suitable alternate route.

Where should drivers check for last-minute changes?

Use AZ511, the AZ511 app or 511 by phone. ADOT also posts project information on the SR 347 Improvement Project page.
