Maricopa City Council has a full agenda for Tuesday, Oct. 6, with items touching grocery retail, city boundaries, emergency response, road right of way and the future use of a former police building.
The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. The City says Council meetings are streamed on its Facebook and YouTube channels. Residents can read the final agenda and attachments through the City's Legistar meeting page before attending or watching.
Every item described below is still pending. An agenda tells residents what Council is scheduled to consider; it does not show that Council approved it.

Aldi #179 seeks a Council recommendation on a liquor license
The agenda includes a request from Aldi #179, 19169 N. John Wayne Parkway, for a Council recommendation on a Series 10 Beer and Wine Store liquor license.
This is a licensing step, not an opening announcement and not the final state license decision. Council is scheduled to recommend approval or disapproval of the application. The agenda does not supply an opening date, so the item should not be read as confirmation that the store is about to open.
Residents following Maricopa's retail growth can browse local shopping options in the OurMaricopa directory. The directory and this agenda item serve different purposes: the directory tracks places residents can use, while the license request records a pending government action.
Council will consider annexing roughly 73 acres
Two agenda items concern ANX26-01, a proposed annexation of about 73 acres in sections 26 and 27 of Township 5 South, Range 4 East.
Council is scheduled to consider an annexation ordinance that would bring the property into the City with initial CR-3 single-family residential zoning. A companion resolution would adopt the 10-year infrastructure plan associated with the annexation.
Council approved the initiation of this annexation process in June. The earlier record described the property as roughly one mile south of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Anderson Road. Tuesday's agenda is a later formal step, but the annexation remains proposed until Council acts and all applicable procedures are complete.
A multi-agency SWAT agreement is on the agenda
The Council is also scheduled to consider an intergovernmental agreement for a Pinal County multi-agency SWAT team. The agenda describes the agreement as a way for participating agencies to coordinate personnel and resources for high-risk incidents.
Approval would authorize the agreement; it would not mean a specific incident is underway. Residents looking for routine public-safety contacts and services can use OurMaricopa's Community & Public Services directory.
Other items include right of way and a city facility name
The consent agenda includes a proposed $322,344 purchase of about 1.48 acres of right of way at the southeast corner of Seven Ranch Road and Whisker Road. The listed purpose is a transportation-related land acquisition. Council must still vote on the contract.
Another resolution would name the remodeled former police building the Development Center. The name is proposed in the agenda and should not be treated as final before Tuesday's vote.
Council is also scheduled to receive a presentation and hold discussion on the City's draft nonresidential design guidelines. That item is listed for discussion rather than adoption. The draft focuses on how commercial and large retail projects address building placement, shade, walking routes and related design details. OurMaricopa previously explained what the draft design guide proposes and how its review schedule works.
