Maricopa residents can get their first grand-opening look at The Fieldhouse at Copper Sky on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. The City says the celebration at 17985 Greythorn Drive is free and open to everyone.

The City's grand-opening announcement lists a ribbon cutting, indoor court activities and family entertainment across the morning.

If the name sounds familiar, this is a different opening from Copper Sky's new outdoor pickleball and volleyball courts. Those September court events introduced outdoor facilities. The Oct. 10 event is for an indoor fieldhouse at the recreation complex.

What the building adds

The Fieldhouse expands and remodels a former police substation south of the main Copper Sky entrance, according to the City's facility page. The City describes roughly 44,000 square feet of air-conditioned indoor sports space.

The court floor can be arranged as four full-size basketball courts, six volleyball courts or 12 pickleball courts. Those are three alternative layouts. They should not be added together as though 22 courts operate simultaneously.

That flexibility is the central value of the building. It gives the City space for leagues, practices, tournaments and recreation without relying on outdoor conditions. It also gives families another option during the hottest part of the year, although ordinary access rules and schedules still need to be published or confirmed through Parks and Recreation.

What is planned for Oct. 10

The City says the program will include remarks from the mayor and City Council, special guests and a ribbon cutting. After the ceremony, visitors will be able to explore the building, shoot baskets and try volleyball and pickleball.

The announcement also lists:

  • Arts and crafts

  • Giveaways

  • An inflatable play area for children

  • Food trucks

  • A Phoenix Championship Wrestling show

The posted event window is 9 a.m.–noon, but the announcement does not provide a minute-by-minute time for the ribbon cutting, wrestling show or individual court activities. It also does not identify a special parking plan or say that food-truck purchases are included. The event itself is free; optional purchases may not be.

Families can compare the opening with other plans on OurMaricopa's community calendar and check the Maricopa forecast. The primary activities are indoors, but travel, parking and any outdoor portions of the celebration can still be affected by conditions that morning.

Visitors should use 17985 Greythorn Drive for navigation and allow enough time to find parking and walk into the complex. The City has not announced a special event parking map, so follow temporary signs and staff direction on arrival. Anyone going mainly for the wrestling show or ribbon cutting should recheck the event page shortly before leaving in case a detailed program is added.

What has not been announced

A grand opening is not the same as the Fieldhouse's everyday operating plan. The release does not establish regular public hours, membership requirements, drop-in prices, league fees or a long-term court-reservation process.

Those details should come from the City's Parks and Recreation pages and recreation registration catalog. Programs can have separate registration windows and capacity limits. A listing that names the Fieldhouse as a location does not guarantee a place in a particular session.

The practical takeaway is simple: Oct. 10 is a free public look at the new indoor facility, with several activities confirmed. Residents interested in using the building afterward should wait for the City's operating information rather than assuming the grand-opening format will continue.
