Which kind of volunteer are you?
MUSD uses two levels. Level 1 covers occasional help under an employee's supervision, including office, library, cafeteria, PTO and event assistance. Level 2 applies to recurring roles that require additional clearance, including regular classroom and athletic-program volunteers. Overnight field-trip volunteers also fall under Level 2. For Level 2, that sheet lists an online Visitor Aware application, a valid driver's license and check-in, district-office training, site administrator approval, and signing in on school visits. Training is one part of the process; attending the September session does not itself authorize someone to begin volunteering. The district says both levels remain supervised by an employee.
The handbook currently linked by MUSD adds a requirement to read and acknowledge the handbook for Level 2. It describes training on expectations, safety and confidentiality, with additional instruction possible at individual schools. It also draws practical boundaries: volunteers do not discipline students, provide medical care, access student records or substitute for teachers.
That makes a conversation with the school useful before filling in dates on your own calendar. Describe the work you hope to do, how often you can come, and any particular event you have in mind. Ask the school to identify the applicable level and the steps it needs completed.
