Mountainside Fitness has put Maricopa on its coming-soon list with a summer 2027 target for a location near North John Wayne Parkway and West Honeycutt Avenue.
The City’s development map adds the size: approximately 41,000 square feet. It also adds the caution residents need before marking an opening day on the calendar. The project remains in the City’s In Review category.
Those two facts are not contradictory. Mountainside’s page states the company’s current opening target. The City map describes where the project sits in the local development process. Together, they show a significant fitness project moving forward on paper, with review, permitting and construction milestones still between today and opening.
What is confirmed
Mountainside’s official coming-soon page identifies Maricopa and gives the intersection as North John Wayne Parkway and West Honeycutt Avenue. It says the location is expected in summer 2027 and that more details are coming.
The City map describes the proposal as a new, approximately 41,000-square-foot Mountainside Fitness. Its expanded entry links to a site plan and building elevations, giving the project more public documentation than a simple business announcement.
The map’s placement still matters. Under the City’s stage definitions, In Review means detailed plans are being evaluated through the permitting process. Review may cover access, parking, elevations, lighting, landscaping, drainage and traffic. It does not mean the building is under construction.
The City uses separate categories for Under Construction and Recently Completed. Mountainside does not appear in either one in the Oct. 12 map update.

Why this location matters
John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt is one of central Maricopa’s most visible crossroads. A fitness center of this size could draw members from established neighborhoods on both sides of the parkway and from newer growth farther east and south.
The scale also makes this more than a small studio announcement. At roughly 41,000 square feet, the proposed building would be a major commercial recreation facility. For comparison, residents can browse existing gyms, studios and wellness providers in the OurMaricopa Health & Wellness directory while the project advances.
Mountainside’s broader website describes its clubs as full-service facilities with a range of amenities. The Maricopa page, however, does not yet publish a location-specific amenity list, membership presale date, hours or pricing. Residents should not assume every feature at another Mountainside club will appear here.
Summer 2027 is a target, not a guarantee
Opening targets can move when design review, utility work, permits, materials or construction schedules change. The company’s wording—“Coming Summer 2027”—is useful evidence of its plan, but it is not a City construction notice or certificate of occupancy.
That timing gap is especially important for a project residents may join in advance. Before paying a location-specific presale, customers should verify the terms directly with the operator, including when billing starts, cancellation rights and what happens if the opening schedule changes.
No public construction-start date was found in the City map entry or Mountainside’s Maricopa page during this morning’s review.
What to watch next
The clearest sign of progress would be a stage change on the City development map from In Review to Under Construction. A building-permit record, visible site work or a Mountainside announcement naming a construction milestone would add further confirmation.
Residents should also watch for the details that determine how the project fits daily life:
The exact parcel and driveway access at John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt
A Maricopa-specific list of pools, courts, childcare, classes or other amenities
Membership pricing and presale terms
Construction and hiring timelines
Final operating hours and an opening date
Maricopa has seen enough proposed projects change schedules that stage labels deserve attention. Mountainside has publicly committed to the market and named a target season. The next chapter will be written in permits, construction activity and a more detailed local launch announcement.
