The Maricopa Rams return home Friday night with a 5–2 overall record and a two-game winning streak for a 5A Southern Region matchup against Sunnyside.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Maricopa High School, 45012 W. Honeycutt Ave. The official AZPreps365 schedule links to advance tickets through GoFan.

Both teams enter the week at 2–1 in region play, making this more consequential than a routine midseason game. It will not settle the full region by itself, but it can change the order with two region games still remaining after Friday.

Maricopa’s recent run

Maricopa’s official schedule shows back-to-back road wins: a 12–0 shutout at Mountain View Marana on Oct. 2 and a 21–14 victory at Mingus Union on Oct. 9.

Those results moved the Rams to 5–2 overall and 2–1 in 5A Southern play. The season has also included a 61–20 region win over Flowing Wells and a 46–6 loss to unbeaten Desert View.

The contrast matters. Maricopa has shown it can produce a lopsided win, win a close game and protect a shutout. Friday asks whether the Rams can carry that road momentum back to their own field against another team near them in the region table.

OurMaricopa covered the earlier Desert View matchup and its 46–6 final. Friday is a new checkpoint after the two-game recovery that followed that loss.

Sunnyside is coming off a region win

Sunnyside’s team page lists a 3–4 overall record and the same 2–1 region mark. The Blue Devils beat Cienega 35–11 on Oct. 9 after earlier region results against Nogales and Desert View.

That makes the overall records less useful than they first appear. Sunnyside has lost more games across the full schedule, but the teams begin Friday even in the region loss column.

The official schedules do not publish a game forecast, statistical matchup or injury report. OurMaricopa is not assigning an expected winner or naming players without a current verified team source.

What is at stake

Maricopa’s final three scheduled games are all 5A Southern contests:

  • Oct. 16: home vs. Sunnyside.

  • Oct. 23: home vs. Nogales.

  • Oct. 30: at Cienega.

Sunnyside follows Friday with Flowing Wells and Mountain View Marana.

A win would give Maricopa a third straight victory and improve its region position before the final two games. A loss would put Sunnyside ahead of the Rams head to head. Postseason qualification depends on the full AIA ranking and remaining statewide results, so Friday should not be described as an automatic playoff clincher or elimination game.

Tickets, location and weather

Maricopa High School is at 45012 W. Honeycutt Ave. The AZPreps365 schedule’s ticket link goes to GoFan. Buyers should confirm the event name and date before completing a purchase.

The National Weather Service has a Wind Advisory in effect during the scheduled kickoff window, with Maricopa-area gusts up to 50 mph possible. The game remains listed for 7 p.m. as of Wednesday morning. The school or district controls any schedule change, so spectators should recheck the official AZPreps365 team page and Maricopa High School channels Friday.

Wind could affect comfort and field conditions even if the game proceeds. Spectators should avoid bringing loose items that can blow from the stands and should follow stadium instructions.

A useful way to follow the result

Use the official team page for the scheduled opponent, location and score once it is posted. A social post or screenshot can appear before the official page updates, but it should be treated as a lead until the final is confirmed.

The story Friday is straightforward: Maricopa comes home after two wins, Sunnyside arrives after a region victory, and both teams carry a 2–1 region record into the final stretch.
