Maricopa families, friends, businesses and community organizations can now sponsor a street banner honoring a veteran or active-duty service member through a new City and American Legion Post 133 pilot program.
The first round is small. The official program page lists 15 available banners at $200 each. The City's goal is to place the inaugural banners along the Veterans Day Parade route on Porter Road in time for this November's celebration.
No application deadline is posted on either official page. With only 15 pilot spaces and a November target, anyone interested should review the program details promptly rather than assuming orders will remain open through Veterans Day.
What the $200 sponsorship includes
The program page describes a full-color 30-by-60-inch banner. It can include the honoree's photograph, basic military information and the sponsoring family or business name.
The City says a purchased banner will be displayed four times over two years: twice for Veterans Day and twice for the Fourth of July. After the final display, the banner is to be retired and presented to the purchaser as a keepsake.
The City's launch announcement also says banner purchases and sponsorships fund production, rather than City taxpayer dollars. Proceeds are intended to support American Legion programs and services for veterans in the Maricopa community.
That makes the $200 payment both a banner sponsorship and support for the local Legion's work. The official pages do not describe any portion as tax-deductible, so purchasers should not assume a charitable deduction without documentation from the organization.
Who can sponsor a banner
The City invitation is broad: families, friends, businesses and community organizations may purchase or sponsor a banner for a veteran or active-duty service member. The program page also names Reserve and National Guard members in its description.
The pages do not publish a detailed Maricopa residency or connection test for an honoree. Before paying, a sponsor with an eligibility question should contact the program administrator and confirm that the proposed honoree qualifies.
A prospective sponsor should be ready with a clear photograph and accurate service information. Because those details will appear publicly, names, service branch and dates should be checked carefully before approving a proof.
How to apply or pay
American Legion Post 133 is administering the applications, payments and banner production. The Maricopa program page is the official starting point for current details and ordering.
The page says payment may be made online or by check payable to American Legion Post 133, 41614 W. Smith-Enke Road, Suite 110, Maricopa, AZ 85138. It lists Derek Jeske at jeskederek42@gmail.com for additional information.
The City Public Works team will handle installation and display. Electrical District No. 3 is allowing its utility poles to be used for the pilot.

What happens after the pilot
The City calls this a pilot because the first round will help measure demand and guide any future expansion. A 15-banner start does not establish how many banners a later round might include or which streets would be used beyond the initial Veterans Day route.
Residents following the November celebration can check OurMaricopa's community calendar as event details are added. Our nonprofit directory and community and public services directory also collect local organizations and civic resources.
For now, the confirmed opportunity is limited and specific: 15 sponsorships, $200 each, with the first banners targeted for Porter Road this Veterans Day.
